Opel wants to build the largest electric vehicle battery factory in Germany

Opel wants to build the largest German electric car battery factory in the town of Kaiserslautern, as announced by Michael Lohscheller. The "one billion euro" plant will be built in partnership with the French company Saft, a subsidiary of the giant Total.

Last summer, France and Germany requested the European Commission's agreement to grant state aid to certain companies forming an alliance in the field of battery production for electric cars.

At the time, the two countries wanted funding of up to € 1.7 billion in this regard, so that Europe could reduce its dependence on Asian suppliers. The plan envisaged an alliance between the PSA group,  Opel and the French battery manufacturer Saft, part of the Total group.

Opel boss Michael Lohscheller has now announced that he wants to build Germany's largest battery factory in partnership with Saft.
